Fans Petition To Have Levar Burton Star As Lando
First it was Jeopardy. Then came a fun commercial with Ryan Reynolds for Aviation Gin. And now the ‘Levar-athan’ beast of a fan movement for Levar Burton has set its sights on Star Wars. A new petition on Change.org is calling for the former Reading Rainbow host to star in Lando, the forthcoming Disney+ series that follows the exploits of the legendary scoundrel.
“It’s such a wonderful feeling to be at the center of that much grace,” Burton told FSW Tuesday morning.
With over 250,000 signatures on the petition, Burton is hoping Disney and Lucasfilm consider him for the role of young Lando Calrissian. “I would love to don the cape and be a suave gambler,” said Burton who took to Twitter to thank his followers for their support.
“THANK YOU… to all y’all for your passionate support! I am overjoyed, excited, and eager to become Lando Calrissian, and will do my utmost best to live up to your faith in me!”
Burton has been vocal about his love of Star Wars ever since FSW photoshopped him as Greef Karga in 2020. Earlier this year, he tweeted that his “dream job” would be to star as Lando.
“More than anything, I’m eager to flex my untapped sex appeal to a new generation. It’s time for me to help a new generation read my body language if you dig what I’m saying,” said Burton. “Gambling, double-crossing, pansexuality,” he continued. “That’s all I ever wanted in a role.”
If Burton does indeed replace Donald Glover, Lucasfilm will need to de-age him similar to how young Luke Skywalker was brought back to life for The Mandalorian Season Two.
The former Lt. Commander Geordi La Forge from Star Trek: The Next Generation would be joining a long list of Star Trek alumni who’ve crossed over to the galaxy far, far away. Double-dipping luminaries include everyone from George Takei and Simon Pegg to Ron Perlman, Olivia D’Abo and Sam Witwer.
