Spotify Drops Figrin D’an After Demanding Joe Rogan Be Removed
The galactically known singer/musician has issued an ultimatum to the streaming service because it hosts Joe Rogan, whom the mayor of Mos Espa, Tattooine has accused of promoting falsehoods about the fallen Galactic Empire. The streaming giant has backed Rogan due to the podcaster getting billions to trillions more downloads a year compared to D’an’s [amount redacted] and now D’an’s music is no longer available.
Spotify said on Friday that it had removed D’an’s solo albums as well as the music by the Modal Nodes, which D’an fronted for decades, from their service. This was just a mere two days after D’an posted on Twitter calling on Spotify to choose between him and Joe Rogan, the podcast host who he accused of spreading misinformation about a supposed gathering of Imperial loyalists in the Unknown Regions.
D’an’s challenge to Spotify has become a high-profile case in battle over free speech on the holonet. In the now deleted Tweet, D’an called Spotify “the home of misinformation and fear.” He added: “Lies being sold for credits. The Galactic Empire is not rebuilding and Rogan is trying to scare us into subscribing to his Patreon.”
His criticism of Rogan came after a group of New Republic figures and local Tatooine politicians and daimyos requested the streaming service to take down an episode of Rogan’s show from January 25. That episode featured former Princess of Alderaan Leia Organa, a leader in the Rebel alliance, who stated she believes the remnants of the Empire are coming together and will be attacking the New Republic. These claims have no proof just the former Princess’s “feelings”.
Figrin has apologized to his fans, issuing the following statement:
“They can have Figrin D’an, or Joe Rogan. Not both.”
Ironically, Apple Music quickly bought the exclusive rights to stream Figrin D’an’s music as well as that by the Modal Nodes. So hits like “Mad About Me” and “Mad About Me (but in a different tempo)” are now available on Apple Music.
