Details Regarding Benioff & Weiss’ Star Wars Project Emerge
This project is more advanced than you think! We got the skinny from an inside source within the Benioff and Weiss camp and here is what zhe knows. Read on for the first scoop regarding their Star Wars project.
>Takes place thousands of years before the Skywalker saga.
>Main planet is Jedha before the cataclysm, technology is much less advanced than in other SW movies. Imagine combining medieval/fantasy aesthetics with Star Wars, barely any blasters and melee weapons are the norm. Concept art shows very medieval imagery such as farms, alien-horse pulled carts, windmills, etc.
>The thematic axis of the movie is an ideological conflict between Sith order and Jedi order.
>Sith believe it’s their right to rule over other people as they’re superior, while Jedi believe that the force should only be used for protecting the weaker and less fortunate.
>The leader of the Sith order is referred to as “Sith’ari”, although I’m not sure if that’s his actual name or a title.
>Sith are stylized after the Teutonic Order, while Jedi are by design supposed to be reminiscent of nomadic tribes from middle east.
>Main protagonist is a Jedi girl that falls in love with a Sith boy. There’s no happy ending; the brief stated that for her love she “pays the price that echoes in the galaxy for millenniums to come”. The movie ends with Sith’ari being banished from Jedha.
>Sith’ari is likely keen on creating a super-weapon, sort of a first Death Star prototype. There’s art showing a structure reminiscent of an Aztec ziggurat that shoots multiple beams of laser that combine into one, akin to how Death Star‘s laser looked like. The weapon likely causes the cataclysm which turns Jedha into a desert planet.
The production/work title for the film is “Jasper” and Lucasfilm is aiming for a 2021 release, possibly making it the first part of a new trilogy, depending on how the film will do in the box office.
