Palpatine Spotted At Travis Scott’s Fortnite Event
Fortnite’s collaboration with musician Travis Scott drew over 12.3 million players during its premiere — and among them was the ghost of Emperor Palpatine, according to several gamers.
During the event dubbed “Astronomical”, a super-sized version of Scott performed several songs while a series of bizarre effects appeared in the sky and around the gamers gathered. One of the most conspicuous in-game pyrotechnics was a storm of Sith lightning that seemed to suspend other flying objects in mid-air.
“Bruh, I saw Palpatine in the game… dude went full sicko mode.. shooting lightning and spinning all around Travis Scott. Old white guy got some moves,” said former FSW intern and aspiring Switch pro gamer Karl Jackson aka No Tier God. Other reports from gamers across platforms have confirmed the Palpatine sighting.
Some Fortnite experts speculate the Emperor never left the virtual island after the Rise of the Skywalker in-game event in December of last year. If you recall, a digital J.J. Abrams presented an exclusive clip from the Star Wars saga finale at the Risky Reels drive-in theater. After the footage was screened and Abrams took off in a spaceship, gamers heard a cryptic message from the Emperor: “At last the work of generations is complete. “The great error is corrected. The day of victory is at hand.”
Could Rey’s grandfather have found immortality within the most influential videogame on the planet? Our resident gaming expert seems to think it’s a possibility.
“For one thing, it would explain why the version of Palpatine currently in Battlefront 2 feels so soulless. The Emperor seen in the Travis Scott concert had Big Sith Energy that was palpable. He was spinning and laughing like a maniac the way we all remember him in the Original Trilogy. Given the state of modern Star Wars videogames, I’d say ol’ Palps made the right decision to live within Fortnite for a few years until he’s needed for a reboot of the prequel films,” said Link “Voxx” Voximilian.
