Admiral Holdo Writes Kids Book To Help Fight Systemic Racism

“Hair color blindness can help heal the galaxy’s great divide,” said Admiral Amilyn Holdo. The famously purple-haired Resistance leader met with FSW to discuss her new children’s book that’s flying off shelves at FTL speeds. The Galaxy Needs More Purple-Haired People teaches children to find similarities before differences.

The book follows a purple-haired girl named Purple-Haired Penny as she learns what a purple-haired person is, and tries to become one.

“The galaxy loves debate especially about hair, I know I do, and debate talks about differences. It’s feathering difference upon difference and layering difference upon difference, ‘I’m a red undercut with a side part’, ‘no, you should have an asymmetric blue pixie’, it’s just constantly pointing out divisive narratives in our hair.”

Holdo believes all of these debates, often fueled by the media, are damaging kids at the critical root level, causing devastating split ends that may take a lifetime to heal.

“Children are absorbing all of that and maybe we needed a bit of a road map to show them that it’s actually great to start with similarities first. We all have heads, and whether or not we have hair on top of those heads, and whether we choose to color our hair one way or another, that should never push us apart. We’re all part of a beautiful spectrum of hair colors.”

As for why purple-haired people are mission critical, Holdo said, “A purple-haired person looks beyond red and blue, and just wants to be a little bit better tomorrow than they were today.”

The Galaxy Needs More Purple-Haired People is available where all books are sold.
