Josh Trank’s Rejected Star Wars Anthology Revealed
In recent news, director Josh Trank’s Fantastic Four reboot was a box office failure and certified “rotten” by critics. Josh later came forward and said it was the studio’s fault the movie was so bad and his original vision was not there due to 20th Century Fox’s countless edits and cuts. After the jump we will take a look at Trank’s Star Wars film that could have been and let you decide if him “leaving” the project was for the best.
Special thanks to Jacen’s shoeshiner cousin who was able to get his hands on this rough outline for Trank’s Star Wars Anthology titled, Dark Empire. No it has nothing to do with the Dark Empire comic series. The film was planned to be directed by Josh Trank and scripted by his Chronicle screenwriter, Max Landis. Rewrites were scheduled to be done by Lawrence Kasdan and Simon Kinberg.
The main cast list included;
Michael B. Jordan as Dodge Finn
Gary Oldman as Zor Jules
Daniel Logan as Wrix Fett
Kerry Washington as Prada Finn
Zoe Kravitz as Yana Frost
Michael Fassbender as Admiral Golan
We were able to find out that Dodge was a stormtrooper and the lead protagonist of the film. He was also the father of TFA’s Finn so that is indeed his last name not first. Prada was Finn’s grandmother. Zor was the main antagonist and a gangster who worked for Jabba the Hutt before his death, now the leader of Jabba’s criminal empire. Zor was also a Twi’lek. Yana Frost was Dodge’s love interest and the future mother of TFA’s Finn. Wrix Fett was a clone of the one and only, Boba Fett. Wrix was treated as Boba’s “son” and now works for Zor Jules after Boba’s “death”, he was the secondary antagonist. Admiral Golan was Dodge’s Imperial superior.
The plot of the film put the Imperials as the protagonists against crime lords and such immediately following Return of the Jedi. Our guess here at FSW is that a lot of questions we have after watching The Force Awakens would have been answered by this movie. Also good to mention, there were no Rebels/Resistance or Force users in this film.
Basically here’s what would have went down. Admiral Golan tasked Dodge Finn with a suicide mission to take out the remainder of Jabba the Hutt’s crime empire, now led by Zor Jules. Zor catches wind of this and sends Wrix Fett to take out the imperial squadron led by Finn. Along the way Finn meets one of Jules’ other mercenaries, Yana Frost who ends up defecting towards the imperials. They fall in love, blah blah blah. Dodge dies in the line of duty but not without killing both Zor and Wrix Fett in the process. The film flashes forward 10 years and shows a young Marl Finn (of The Force Awakens) wanting to join the stormtroopers like his father did. Film ends.
All in all, this sounded like a pretty swell outline for a film and we, here at FSW wish that Josh Trank would have stayed on the project. Who knows what Lucasfilm will put out instead!
Stay tuned fake believers!!
