Star Wars Breaks Box Office Record In The Stars

After having smashed so many box office records on Earth with The Force Awakens, Disney is setting its sights on outer space. Yesterday, the seventh installment in the Star Wars saga was screened aboard the International Space Station. And since five of the six astronauts currently residing on the station were at the screening, The Force Awakens has set a new Earth Orbit record for movie attendance.
This is up from previous record holder The Martian which was screened several months ago. Only four of the six real life space heroes attended that screening as the other two were ironically battling a major round of the Mars Flu and had to be quarantined from the rest of their crew.
Of course, technically screening The Force Awakens is a deficit for Disney and taxpayer-funded NASA as the Galactic Netflix beaming service runs at a cost of $190,000 USD per average length movie. That means *spoiler ahead* Luke Skywalker’s wooden stare alone cost close to $8000.00 just for the five astronauts to endure it.
Netflix hopes to become the sole provider for Hollywood entertainment once the first Mars living pod lands in 2020. The first movie planned to be show on Mars? You guessed it, Star Wars: The Phantom Menace. What a great way to start off interplanetary entertainment!
