Exclusive: Carrie Fisher Turned Down Role in Ghostbusters Reboot
With the release of the trailer for the all-female reboot of Ghostbusters, a new piece of info has emerged. As it turns out, Princess Leia herself was offered a role in the film but subsequently turned it down. Find out what the role was and why she declined the offer after the jump!
Carrie Fisher was slated to portray the villain Rowan in the Ghostbusters rebootquel, but the role ultimately went to Saturday Night Live veteran, Neil Casey. Apparently director Paul Feig wanted a literally all-female cast, with the exception of Chris Hemsworth, but after Fisher dropped out of the project they cast whomever showed up to audition first.
On the subject of leaving the cast of Ghostbusters, Fisher explained;
“Besides it conflicting with my [The] Force Awakens shooting schedule, they wouldn’t let Gary on the set with me! He isn’t that bad, he’s quite a well-behaved dog, freaking Westminster quality! [Melissa] McCarthy claimed she was allergic to dogs and I called bullsh*t. I guess Paul [Feig] wanted “Stay Puft” more than “demon b*tch Leia.” But whatever, this gives me more time to concentrate on Star Wars rather than get plunged into another franchise. And did I mention I hate ghosts? The best part of the whole ordeal was that I was able to have lunch with Sigourney [Weaver]. It was nice to catch up with Siggy before finding out she’s going to be in the next [Star Wars] episode with me. Wait… can we cut that part?”
What do you think of this revelation? Carrie was almost the villain in Ghostbusters and Sigourney Weaver is going to be in Episode VIII! Wow, such great news! Leave a comment below or join the conversation over on our new message board!
