BB-8 Taints White House Easter Egg Hunt

XgNiJUN7

WASHINGTON, D.C. — BB-8, the soccer ball droid who made his debut in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, has gone on the defensive after making a barrage of politically charged comments during the annual White House Easter Egg Hunt.As co-host of the event, BB-8 helped President Obama and the Easter Bunny entertain a throng of children in attendance with witty banter, giveaways, and a large-scale Easter egg hunt on the White House lawn. The fan-favorite droid led the charge during the hour-long search, assisting kids in finding unique “smart eggs” – mini-versions of himself and other droids specially created by Spheero. These one-of-a-kind smart eggs offered all-new forms of interactivity, as the oblong spheres consciously rolled away from racing children. Even more impressive, upon capture the eggs projected holograms featuring download codes for Star Wars-themed prizes and candy.

By all accounts, the event was a tremendous success, and a PR-coup for Disney leading up to the digital release of The Force Awakens this week. Unfortunately during the post-hunt press conference, things took a turn for the worse when a reporter asked BB-8 what he thought of presidential candidate Donald Trump. The cantankerous droid flipped “the bird” in response and “mooned” the press in attendance, flashing a “Feel the Bern!” sticker on his rear-most curvature.

Sources say this is likely the first and last time BB-8 visits the White House. The incident has also caused a rift among Star Wars droids as staunchly Republican R2-D2 (thanks to President Ronald Reagan’s use of the term “Star Wars”) is now boycotting any events featuring BB-8. Needless to say, this is posing an issue for the production of Episode VIII.
