Mark Hamill Joins Cast of Suicide Squad as Trickster!
LOS ANGELES — Reports that David Ayer’s Suicide Squad is undergoing re-shoots were vastly blown out of proportion by the blogosphere yesterday. A trusted source clarified the situation for us today. It appears Warner Bros. is indeed looking to inject more humor into the film given the poor reception of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and its overly grim tone. But the re-shoots only involve Killer Croc’s scenes, as Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje had a scheduling conflict during production earlier this year. The slight delay may have been worth it since the villainous reptile will now be gaining a playful partner-in-crime to add some much needed levity to the film.
Mark Hamill, rejuvenated from his appearance in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, has been tapped to play the Trickster in Suicide Squad. Despite Hamill’s fan-favorite portrayal of the character in The Flash TV series, this will be an all-new incarnation, exclusive to the DC Extended Universe. Hamill’s casting is meant to counter Jared Leto’s super-serious take on the Joker, because focus groups have shown it is seriously lacking in the jokes department. On the matter Hamill said;
“I get to play a second version of The Trickster… I mean that’s already funny. So yeah, I’m excited. To go from saying nothing in J.J.’s film to playing a loon who won’t shut up… I can’t wait. They literally said, show up and be funnier than these drips… I think I can manage. Have you seen my Twitter? Luke’s got jokes.”
Suicide Squad’s re-shoots will require two weeks of filming, which won’t necessarily impact the production of Star Wars: Episode VIII as Hamill’s scenes are being shot at a later date. We’re told Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy is actually very supportive of Hamill’s decision as she’s also friendly with Ayer and wants to see his superhero team film do well.
