EA unveils Season Pass for “Making of Star Wars” Featurettes

REDWOOD CITY, CALIFORNIA — EA, the videogames publisher and developer, has “stolen E3” with a revolutionary “Programmatic Peek” inside the making of its upcoming titles set within the Star Wars universe.

Rather than showcase gameplay or in-game graphics like competitors, the publisher has introduced a Season Pass for exclusive videos that take gamers behind the scenes.

“It’s important for gamers to see how excited our teams are to be working on the biggest IP in the galaxy,” said an EA spokesperson.

The world was given a taste of these videos recently with the aptly titled EA Star Wars: A Look Ahead. In the trailer, viewers are treated to a lavish production with cinema quality effects along with insightful commentary from several EA developers, including DICE, BioWare, Motive, Visceral Games, Capital Games and Respawn Entertainment.

“Anyone can show actual in-game footage, but what we’re after is bigger than that… like the Force itself. We really want gamers to feel invested in the lives of our developers first and foremost. So we’re sparing no expense.”

The “Making of EA Star Wars” Season Pass for XBox One, PS4, and PC will include monthly video updates from developer teams as opposed to any screens or videos from the titles they’re working on. According to EA, sharing traditional media of games is an outdated tactic that would cheapen the Star Wars brand.

“Honestly, if I could go back in time, I’d replace the three second snippet of my Uncharted Star Wars game with more footage of me and Doug Chiang hugging it out. But we were in a rush to get something out for E3,” said Amy Hennig, one of the more celebrated developers working for EA.

The “Making of Star Wars” Season Pass is set to go on sale next month for $69.99, and includes several DLC add-ons, most notably various “casual yet chic, and totes nerd sexy” outfits for developers Stig Asmussen, Jade Raymond, and Amy Hennig.
