Disney to Reshoot Star Wars Celebration as Sizzle Fizzles

LONDON, ENGLAND — The space dust hasn’t even settled but Star Wars Celebration Europe is already in the Empire’s crosshairs. This year’s convention dedicated to all things Star Wars failed to hit the numbers Disney had projected, both in terms of revenue generated and positive mentions in social media. To remedy the situation, the Mouse House is hatching plans to reshoot the entire convention.

The biggest changes will take place during the marquee Rogue One: A Star Wars Story panel. As anyone who watched the talk with the film’s cast & crew can attest, the multiple showings of a “sizzle” reel were underwhelming and borderline cruel.

(For context: the world at large was fully expecting a 3-minute trailer for the new Star Wars film, especially after Disney-owned ABC ran a TV Guide listing promising as much.)

Fans in attendance weren’t much luckier. They were given a peek at a minute-long TLO (trailer-like object), which also fizzled with only two new shots amid a mix of previously seen footage.

Fortunately, the planned reshoots of Celebration Europe 2016 will ditch the “sizzle” and give everyone an authentic Rogue One trailer of 180 seconds or more. In addition, the widely derided poster for Rogue One will be re-designed and its reveal will be shot again. Even the host of the panel — Gwendolyne Christie, who was dressed in an odd pantsuit — will be re-dressed to be in her Episode VIII Captain Phasma gear throughout the panel. Felicity Jones’ funeral attire is to be brightened up as well.

“It makes total sense from a branding perspective… if the film you want to promote is known for reshoots… you have an opportunity to own the reshoot space — from the convention, to the promos, the toys, and more,” said a Disney analyst.

Disney will also be revisiting the second biggest letdown of Celebration Europe. Namely, the lack of an Episode VIII teaser or name reveal. Not only will the reshoots include the title and teaser, but the Episode VIII cast will be filmed reading the first pages of the script together.

Insiders tell us the new and improved Star Wars Celebration Europe 2016 will be ready by late September or early October.
