Rogue Squadron Reboot Coming to the Nintendo Switch
REDMOND, WA — PlayStation, Xbox, and PC gamers may have Battlefront but never fear Nintendo gamers! A Star Wars title is headed your way! FSW heard from Jacen’s cousin’s uncle who works at Nintendo that a “reboot” of the Rogue Squadron series is coming to the Nintendo Switch.
The N64 and GameCube classic series, Rogue Squadron, was a favorite of many Star Wars fans, the FSW staff included. Take this rumor as a grain of salt though as Jacen’s cousin’s uncle is known to be a practical joker. At the last family reunion he had, Jacen was convinced he would be in Rogue One because he was “dating Felicity Jones” at the time, but we knew that was a lie due to not having her phone number stored in his iPhone 4.
Jacen’s cousin’s uncle really does work at Nintendo however so we will share what he told FSW.
- The working title of the game is Star Wars: Black Squadron and will focus on Poe Dameron prior and during The Force Awakens.
- Pablo Hidalgo has been seen on site at Nintendo of America so he will likely have input on the story of the game.
- Former Factor 5 employees who worked on the Rogue Squadron series are working on Black Squadron.
- The game will release in 2017, possibly in December to coincide with the release of Episode VIII.
- There will not be any Episode VIII content in game but will be considered as DLC after the film comes out.
- It will mainly be a space/aerial combat game but there will be a few 3rd person shooter on-foot missions like there was in Rogue Squadron III.
- A Dark Side DLC Mission Pack is also in development where you play as the First Order. It is unknown if the mission pack will release with the game or at a later date.
- There will be a online and local multi-player dogfight mode featuring ships from all Star Wars eras. (Prequel trilogy, The Clone Wars, Rebels, Rogue One, original trilogy, sequel trilogy, and some Legends/EU material.)
- Oscar Isaac, Carrie Fisher, Greg Grunberg, and other TFA actors have recorded new dialog for the game.
This sounds great so lets hope that it comes to pass. Will you buy a Switch just for this game? We know FSW will have a few in the office break room! Let us know what you think in the comments.
