Woody Harrelson Cast as Han Solo’s Hustling Mentor
Young Han Solo has found his mentor — and he just so happens to be Katniss Everdeen’s teacher too! Woody Harrelson, fresh from his stint on The Hunger Games films, is in talks to join the cast of the young Han Solo solo film. Sources tell FSW the deal may be finalized later today. If negotiations are successfull, Harrelson will be playing Ovan Marekal, a character who originated in Leigh Brackett’s original draft of The Empire Strikes Back.
Marekal is Han Solo’s uncle, and one of the most legendary hustlers in the galaxy. He fixes sabacc games, pushes deathsticks, and hustles people in a variety of sporting events, including wampa fights and dance battles.
According to sources, Harrelson has an Oscar-worthy monologue in the film wherein Marekal explains to Han how to get “in the zone” before a good hustle. Think of it as the scoundrel’s version of the Force if you will. We hear Woody really slams this one home!
“But why would Han even need a mentor?” you say. We hear you. Keep in mind the young Solo solo film is being written by Lawrence Kasdan, the man who created the character. If that’s not enough to put your mind at ease, there’s also this:
FSW has been told young Han, Chewie and Lando use the lessons Marekal teaches them to con their own teacher! The trio actually steal the Millennium Falcon from Han’s uncle, teaching him a lesson about the next generation of scoundrels. Oh, the irony!
As always, keep it locked to FakingStarWars.net for the latest and fakes news from a galaxy far, far away.
