Wilmer Valderrama Accuses Poe Dameron Of Stealing His Momma Joke

Wilmer Valderrama Accuses Poe Dameron Of Stealing His Momma Joke

The funniest man in the Resistance has come under fire for allegedly stealing his set opener from Hollywood heartthrob Wilmer Valderrama. According to the actor best known for his breakout role as Fez in That ’70s Show, the joke that Poe Dameron makes in the very first scene of The Last Jedi originated elsewhere. Valderrama claims the “diss”, which Dameron fires off at General Armitage Hux, is actually one of his go-to bits.

“Back in the day, whenever I was facing a comedian bigger than me, a funnyman who totally outgunned me… I would turn to my Superman momma joke,” said Valderamma, who hosted the short-lived MTV series Yo Momma in 2006. The show’s ambitious premise involved various comedians battling each other in a circle with momma jokes serving as their only weapons. “To think, a fellow Latino would straight up jack my joke is sad. The fact that it’s the hotshot flyboy from the Resistance makes it even worse.”

Scene from Yo Momma where Valderrama claims Poe stole his joke

At the moment, it’s unclear whether or not Dameron knowingly lifted the joke or not, so we’ll let you draw your own conclusions. Below is Poe’s version as performed in The Last Jedi:

Poe Dameron: This is Commander Poe Dameron of the Republic fleet, I have an urgent communique for General Hugs.

General Hux: This is General Hux of the First Order. The Republic is no more. Your fleet are Rebel scum and war criminals. Tell your precious princess there will be no terms, there will be no surrender…

Poe Dameron: Hi, I’m holding for General Hux.

General Hux: This is Hux. You and your friends are doomed. We will wipe your filth from the galaxy.

Poe Dameron: Okay. I’ll hold.

General Hux: Hello?

Poe Dameron: Hello? Yup, I’m still here.

General Hux: Can he hear me?

Poe Dameron: Hux?

Com Officer: He can.

Poe Dameron: With an ‘H’? Skinny guy. Kinda pasty.

General Hux: I can hear you. Can you hear me?

Poe Dameron: Look, I can’t hold forever. If you reach him, tell him Leia has an urgent message for him…

Com Officer: I believe he’s tooling with you, sir.

Poe Dameron: …about his mother.

Com Officer: He’s going for the dreadnaught.

General Hux: Ha. He’s insane.

General Hux doesn’t really care where the joke originated

Now here’s Valderrama’s version:

Wilmer: Yeah well… Superman called with an urgent message…

Wilmer: … about yo momma and her Doomsday culo. Ta-dowwww!!

Regardless of the similarities between the jokes, Valderrama feels insulted on a deeper level. “Poe’s timing was off and the joke just never lands… some ace pilot! If you’re going to steal my joke, the least you can do is get it right. Guess his momma never taught him that. And if you’re reading this, Poe, you’d better not steal any of my other momma jokes for Episode IX. I know you’ve probably got your eye on my Knock Knock… Joe… Joe Mama gag.”

We reached out to Dameron for comment on this story, but he declined to provide a statement in time for publication. He did, however, flip us the bird during a fly-by earlier this morning.
