Lucasfilm Already Hired Its First Legally Blind Gay Female Director Of Color But Is Keeping It Secret

Earlier this week, Variety reported that 96% of Star Wars writers and directors are white men. The story did not go over very well at Lucasfilm, where Kathleen Kennedy has vowed to add diversity to the space fantasy films, both in front of the camera and behind. Now a new source has come forward to confirm that Kennedy is indeed making good on her promise. According to the anonymous insider, Lucasfilm has secretly hired a filmmaker that stands in stark contrast to the overly white, overly male creators it typically employs for Star Wars.

“She ticks all the boxes. Black, check. Gay, hell to the yasssss. Disabled? Visually impaired yo! You couldn’t ask for a more diverse diversity hire. But they’re keeping it on the hush because heads ain’t ready. The fandom is too toxic at the moment, and if they reveal this strong Nubian goddess too soon, we’re liable to lose the last few remaining core fans.”

The source goes on to reveal that Kennedy had planned on revealing the mystery director this month to coincide with Black History Month, the release of Black Panther and the 10th anniversary of the Blind Gay Lesbian Filmmaker Coalition. However, those plans were scrapped once The Last Jedi underperformed and Solo: A Star Wars Story failed to command much interest outside of white male media outlets.

“For the moment, the whites [male directors] are holding it down. Because LFL [Lucasfilm] needs to make it clear that the snowflakes are still welcome… and that means announcing more white men as creators, like the Game of Thrones guys. Gradually though, we’re going to start announcing writers and directors with ethnic last names. Maybe a biracial hyphenate filmmaker. Then we’ll take stock of whether or not the people are ready for more… if so, we’ll probably test the waters with a female-to-male transgender writer-director. Should that go over well, I think we’ll finally be able to give our blind lesbian of color auteur the platform she deserves.”

If this source is to be trusted, the future of Star Wars promises greater inclusion and representation, from the leads of the films to the writers and directors. Of course, only time will tell.
