Benioff And Weiss Fight Spoiler Culture By Spoiling All 9 Of Their Star Wars Films

Game of Thrones showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss may have paved the way for HBO’s Westworld, but now the pair is ripping a page from the dystopian showrunner’s playbook. Earlier this week Westworld creators Nolan and Lisa Joy announced plans to spoil their shows second season by posting a video detailing the entire plot. Industry insiders believe it’s a risky move, while other analysts believe the Joys could be playing a bit of 5D Troll chess in an ambitious attempt to troll the trolls.

Now comes word that Benioff and Weiss are going to do something similar, only on a much, much bigger scale. The pair issued the following statement this morning:

“If you guys are cool with it, we’re going to post a Force for Change video that outlines the entire plot for our upcoming 9 Star Wars films. The twists, the turns, the I am Your Father moments – everything. That way, anyone who wants the saga spoiled for them a decade in advance can watch ahead and protect the other members of the community. They can be spoiler cops as it were, to help distinguish between pure fan fiction and what are legit spoilers from the films we’re in the process of making. May the Force be with you!”

Should this come to pass, it would mark a turning point in spoiler culture. What will the clickbait trolls have left to write about if the juiciest bits are revealed years in advance? Are these media properties shooting themselves in the foot by killing off sustained coverage throughout pre-production? The future is hazy, but exciting nonetheless!
