Disney Hires Woman Of Color To Work Under Jewish Man In Historic Move

In a landmark decision, Disney and Lucasfilm have finally hired a female director to work on a Star Wars movie. This marks the first time a woman of color will have the opportunity to direct under the watchful eye of J.J. Abrams. Kathleen Kennedy, who has often been criticized for only hiring white men and women to work under Jewish men, celebrated the milestone.

“After thirty years working in the movie business, this is one of my proudest moments. Everyone should have equal opportunity to learn from and take direction from a Jewish man in charge.”

The surprising news was first tweeted by Ava DuVernay, a filmmaker who herself had been offered the chance to work on a Star Wars film in some capacity, but turned it down. During her discussions with Kennedy, however, DuVernay did recommend her good friend Victoria Mahoney, a music video director with experience working for men of various ethnic backgrounds.

“Vic has always gotten along well with white male directors and producers. Many of her good friends are also Jewish. She was a natural fit… me, notsomuch,” said Duvernay from the green screen set of the DC Comics sci-fi film New Gods.

The hiring of Mahoney as Second Unit director effectively proves that Disney and Lucasfilm are receptive to criticism. Some insiders suggest this may open the door for a woman of color to one day be in the First Director’s chair.

“El-oh-el. Let’s not get crazy now. Maybe in another 50 years. The Force May be Female but second unit director is as far as that old religion goes,” added Kennedy, tempering expectations.

For his part, J.J. Abrams feels the hiring of Mahoney is invaluable for modern-day Abramses as well as future generations.

“I’m ecstatic. It’s not every day a studio offers you another spin off film just for letting a woman frame some shots and adjust my lens flares. Disney’s virtue signaling continues to line my pockets, so I’m on cloud nine. My family is going to be taken care of for many years to come.”
