Lord And Miller Improv Their Way Out Of Awkward Solo Questions
HOLLYWOOD, CA — Directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller narrowly escaped an entertainment reporter’s questions when the topic of Solo: A Star Wars Story inevitably came up.
According to Entertainment Tonight’s Cameron Mathison, the duo launched into “Zip, Zap, Zop” as soon as he asked about their highly publicized dismissal from Solo, and Disney’s subsequent hiring of Ron Howard to reshoot the film.
“Phil clapped and screamed Zip then pointed to Chris who yelled Zap and pointed to me… and I just said no, no guys. I just want to know what you think of Ron’s version of your film. Wrong move, Cam.”
Mathison was subjected to a 20-minute lecture on the cardinal sin of improv: NEVER SAY NO. After the awkward interruption, the reporter immediately put what he’d learned to good use.
“I told them Yes, and… that was the key. You have to use that after whatever nonsense they say or do. But even when I did that, they went back into Zip, Zap, Zop again. It was maddening. I can see why they were fired.”
Unfortunately, Mathison was never able to get an answer to any of his questions regarding Solo. However, we’re told Lord & Miller did grant him an email interview, but they would be live-riffing on his scripted questions and probably making them their own. Sorry, Cam. Great work on staging the Alden Ehrenreich surprise visit by Harrison Ford though.
